Here is the deal scenario I came up with, its for someone who hasnt been couponing for long, just picked up this weeks paper, and is going for it:
1) Go to the store and get a CVS card
2) Register it here, to get a $4.00 of $20 purchase for first time registers only
Next trip to the Store:
Buy 1 Schick Hydro RAzor $8.97 with $5 ECB (limit 1)
Buy 1 Bauch and Lomb Sensitive Renu Contact Solution $7.99 with $7.99 ECB (limit 1)
Buy 1 REvlon nail polish $3.99 with $3.00 ECB (limit 6)
Use $4 off $20 purchase CVS coupon (you got this for registering your email address and new cvs card)
use $4 off schick hydro razor coupon (this weeks newspaper insert)
Use $1.00/1 contact solution here (no longer availible)
Pay $11.95 plus tax out of pocket get back $15.99 in ECB (so you just made $4)
Transaction 2
Buy 7 Dove Shampoo/conditioner/deoderant (mix and match according to what you need)
Use $0.75/1 Shampoo (this weeks newspaper)
$1.50/2 deoderant sprintable coupon here
$1.50/2 shampoo/conditioner here
Total: $21
minus $5.25 in coupons
give $15.00 in ECB
OOP: close to zero, and get $10 ECB
Transaction 3: Now you can stop there, or if you need paper towels and toliet paper this is a pretty decent deal:
Buy 1 16 pack Charmin Toliet paper $10
Buy 1 12 pk Bounty Extra soft paper towels $13
Buy 2 things of puffs tissues $1 each
Total: $25
(Again I’m writing this as if you didn’t have past issues of newspaper that would have coupons for these items, if you scrounge some up, thats a bonus!)
Use $10 ECB
Pay $15 out of pocket get back $10 ECB
So to wrap up that’s $26 out of pocket total, but ending with $10 ECB, $16 for that much shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, paper towels, toilet paper, contact solution, nail polish, tissues, not a bad deal!

Okay I’m writing this as if you haven’t shopped at CVS before:
The benefit of shopping at CVS is their Extra Care Bucks (ECB) program, you basically get in store credit on certain items in the store. So for example this week Renu Sensitive contact solution is priced at $7.99 you buy it, and at the bottom of your receipt will be $7.99 in ECB or in store credit, that you can use on almost anything in the store, (not on gift cards) they do expire, usually you get close to one month to use them. CVS does put limits on how many times you can do a deal, for instance the contact solution deal has a limit of one time during this week, whereas you can do the Revlon nail polish deal up to 6 times this week.
If youre not sure if you met the quota or not, check your reciept, it will tell you how many more times you can do the deal. Also you can use coupons when you are buying things at CVS, and you can also use ECB with your coupons, again CVS treats ECBS like in store credit, or a gift card, you can use multiple ECBS in a single transaction, the only catch is, if your ECBS are more than the items you are buying, you will either need to add some candy or filler items to absorb that overage and get your moneys worth, or simply forfeit the surplus.
The cashiers in my experience have always been really kind about warning me “You’ll be giving up $2 do you want to add something to your order to fill that” and I reach below the candy counter and put up $2 worth, now not all cashiers will do this for you, so do watch for this, or simply ask the cashier.
